We have all been there; you pray and seek the Lord for what seems to you forever about something you believe for sure He will give you. Days turn to weeks, and weeks to months, until you become fully convinced that God is not going to answer your prayer...or at least, He is not going to answer the way you are praying...
O the depth of the riches both of the wisdom and knowledge of God! how unsearchable are his judgments, and his ways past finding out!
While we are not capable of figuring out why God does what He does, and how He does it, we can be fully assured He does this one thing for all of His children...He answers our prayers! The truth is, we do not always realize when He answers them...and at times, we do not see His handy work right away; yet when we ask according to His will, we can be sure the answer will come, sometimes in surprising and unexpected forms.
1 John 5:14-15
And this is the confidence that we have in him, that, if we ask any thing according to his will, he heareth us: And if we know that he hear us, whatsoever we ask, we know that we have the petitions that we desired of him.
A great example is seeking God in our finances. Maybe there is an unexpected bill due, a medical expense that came up unaware, or maybe you just have not been able to get by the way you had hoped. You begin praying for God to send you a surprise check in the mail, or maybe receive a bonus from work...time goes by, and you check the mail daily, expecting there to be money laying around on the ground, or in a pair of pants you thought you had checked...but you do not find a dime! While the days go on, and while you begin to lose faith that God will answer your prayers, you begin to realize, you were somehow able to save more money during the month than you had expected. All of the groceries you need happen to be on sale, your bills are not as high as you had thought; and suddenly you realize that God had come through for you!
Our generation has somehow become obsessed in thinking that God owes us something; that we are entitled to an easy life with limitless prayer requests to be answered how we see best. It is during these times when God teaches us some of our most valuable lessons. That money you believed you so desperately deserve because you prayed about it everyday was something you really did not need at all. Yet you were able to save money by other means you had not noticed, because maybe, you were too busy wondering why God would not answer your prayer, but maybe He knows what you truly need is to learn how to get by in less money, or less frivolity.
Therefore take no thought, saying, What shall we eat? or, What shall we drink? or, Wherewithal shall we be clothed?...for your heavenly Father knoweth that ye have need of all these things.
The lesson here is this: we do not know what is best for ourselves, so God intervenes when we ask for what we only think we may want or need. When our hearts and minds are unable to discern what is best for us, God is able to reveal Himself to us in the most mysterious and magnificent ways. Instead of focusing our prayer life and time with God telling Him what you would like for Him to do, try asking God what you can do for Him and how He may reveal to you His will for your life. I guarantee you will see God’s hand working, and your prayers being answered in His way.
For I know the thoughts that I think toward you, saith the LORD, thoughts of peace, and not of evil, to give you an expected end.
