Simply being present in the state of California at this moment in time, I struggle to find words fitting the destruction I witnessed in just four, short days...
Let me begin by saying the moment I stepped into the airport terminal, I began listening to typical, coffee house conversations. What disturbed me as a visitor to California, were the remarks by the locals returning home. “Of course you are returning to Fresno, nobody would ever actually want to visit there!” one passenger remarked as the receptor of the comment nodded in agreement.
My guard however, did not go up until my ride to the hotel, where my spirit became disturbed with an unfamiliarity I had not known since living back home in Las Vegas. I immediately became aware that I was not in the California I remembered as a teen or a child.
Something unfamiliar was rearing disapproval of my presence, in this city, in this state that has completely and wholly rid themselves of Christ. I found it difficult to believe I was still within United States borders. Lack of law enforcement presence, nearly every street filled with illegal race car driving in the late afternoon, loud, obnoxious, music with disturbing lyrics blared from all corners; extraordinary amounts of homeless communities with a lack of respect for private property; drug addicts and users roaming the streets in midday, with no shame.
The worst of all? None of the city churches ever reopened after shutdown. Public schools remain closed. Businesses, large and small (many I remember from my childhood vacations in California), closed for good, failing to recover during pandemic closures. The city of Fresno, and the state of California has made the detrimental move of letting God know He is no longer welcome there.
And since they did not see fit to acknowledge God, God gave them up to a debased mind to do what ought not to be done.
It does not take long to identify the state’s desperate need for salvation, and it does not take much to realize California’s response has been no, over and over again...instead of the churches standing up against the government and refusing to conform, refusing to reopen their buildings, refusing to say no to Satan, but yes to government confinement and control. The mess the state of California, along with some others, they have found themselves in is more than overwhelming.
But somewhere, within the heart of heart of California, there are a chosen few who God has set apart for Himself, a few He is reserving for such a time as this; a chosen few who have been awakened, and are crying out for their own to repent!
However, I believe California does not have many chances left to ask for redemption. I believe this desperate time calls for people who are tired of seeing this lukewarm Christianity rearing up, and trying to get hold of the Church.
I know your works: you are neither cold nor hot. Would that you were either cold or hot! So, because you are lukewarm, and neither hot nor cold, I will spit you out of my mouth.
God is not interested in the heart of a lukewarm believer who is satisfied with a “Sunday filling” of the Lord, and back to their lifestyle on Monday. Instead He desires that the lukewarm believer repent and regains their love for Christ. That is what He is calling the entire nation to do; in states like California, where there is little time and little place to be in a lukewarm Christian, Satan is sitting back, watching with a grin on his face, thinking he has the victory. But like California, we have another chance; God has given us a grace period, how are we going to respond?
