For my thoughts are not your thoughts,
neither are your ways my ways, saith the LORD.
They say patience is a virtue, and good things come to those who wait; but waiting on God can be difficult whenever our need seems impossible. Thankfully, God knows what seems impossible to us, are insignificant in the eyes of the One who created the universe at the sound of His voice. The hardest part for us is often trying to figure out exactly how or when God will meet whatever need has burdened us; but nobody in their deepest, mature walk with God, nor a brand new believer learning how to walk with Christ is able to fully discover the ways of the Lord. We are only able to know one obvious truth...God’s ways look nothing like we picture them!
Yet ye say, The way of the Lord is not equal. Hear now, O house of Israel; Is not my way equal? are not your ways unequal?
Have you noticed God has methods of answering prayer that we never think about? And the best part is, unlike us, He never runs out of ideas or methods! How many times have you sought the Lord, thinking, “surely God must come through for me like this...of course, God has to answer me like that...”? Suddenly, and surely unexpectedly, God comes through in the one way you never thought about; and by that time, you may or may not realize immediately that God has answered your prayers in the best way possible...His way!
If ye abide in me, and my words abide in you, ye shall ask what ye will, and it shall be done unto you.
When we are constantly focused on the how or the when God will come through, we begin to conform to worry and despair rather than trusting our promises made by Him made centuries ago. While each man and woman struggles with different measures of doubt and fear, the moment we begin to feed it, the more difficult to overcome. Sometimes, we can overindulge and rack our brains until we are sick wondering just how God can do what seems to us impossible; but is this not just how God loves to show His glory to us? Just as we begin to fear all is lost, He steps in...right on time!
Instead of fearing if or when God is able to answer your prayer, consider the teaching opportunities He is allowing you to receive during your time of waiting. Maybe your prayer involves a financial need, but instead of sending you a check in the mail, God may be teaching you how to live within your financial means. Or maybe your need is physical healing, and you ask repeatedly for God to heal you, but the chances of recovery become dim with each passing week. However, by displaying your unwavering faith, you never even realized how God was using your faith in such a time of suffering to be a blessing to someone in desperate need to see God’s love.
Consider God’s servant, Job in the Old Testament; having everything one could ever ask for, God tested him by allowing Satan to take all he had, including adding extreme physical suffering. Instead of despairing the how, why, or when, he stood firm against his own friends and wife who rebuked his unwavering faith, and the reality of God can give, He can also take away, and nobody alive is able to question Him.
Behold, he taketh away, who can hinder him? who will say unto him, What doest thou?
Even when we do not see God at work on our behalf, we are able by the promises of His Word to rest assured He is faithful to fulfill all He promises; and if we wait and endure with perseverance, no matter the outcome or how God chooses to deliver our answer, we will bless Him greatly by demonstrating our patience and trust in Him, knowing however and whenever He sends the answer, it will be exactly when and what we need!
Wait on the LORD: be of good courage, and he shall strengthen thine heart: wait, I say, on the LORD.
